"Our original vision was a continuum of care retirement community where residents could either live independently or with as much support as they needed," says Steve Elken, one of the original developers. He takes pride in his continuous management and seeing this vision accomplished by "a valued staff who have given so many, many years of excellent service to our community." There are 125 employees who staff the 14 acre campus. Many have been continuously employed for more than ten years and more than a third have been here for at least five years. Executive Director, Pat Gallinger, who has been at Springwood 20 years says, "I am starting to see the next generation move in. It's very reassuring for the new residents to know there is staff that remember when their parents lived here."
Residents were recently asked why they loved living at Springwood Retirement Campus. "The staff really care about the residents, " was the immediate response from Jack and Bobby O'Brien who live in a Springwood apartment. Jack adds, "The fact that some employees have been here for 13, 14, or even 20 years, attests to the character of Springwood." Writer Lois Lindstrom Kennedy is delighted with her freedom from the worries of home ownership so that she can finally devote time to finishing that book she wanted to write. Like many, she remembers that she thought making the move from her home would be difficult, but once she did it, she wondered why she waited so long!
Jack Goodridge says with a smile, "It's the people who make this such a wonderful place to live! There is a diverse group of residents and the staff genuinely care about your well-being and happiness." Alabama native Dottie Brown, who knows something about "Southern hospitality," talks about the wonderful "spirit of warmth" she experienced when she first moved into her apartment home at The Fountains. She particularly enjoys the activities and group trips offered residents, and loves the beautiful mountain views and sunsets seen from her balcony.
But don't just take their word for it! Experience our welcoming community for yourself. Call to schedule a delicious complimentary lunch and personal tour of the campus.
